HH Pattern Cream Jug - Vera Bridle 1923-33

There's an element of luck with eBay, like all auctions. Of course the price you pay will depend on who else bids, but also (when you've only seen a photo of something) sometimes you don't know how lovely it is until you hold it in your hands.
This jug has real character. It's a simple enough pattern, but even so has several glaze skips, finger prints, little splashes of colour in the wrong place, the yellow areas on one side are darker than the other, due (I think) to it's placement in the kiln and uneven firing, and it's all as good as it was the day it was made.  There must have been times at Poole when the potters aimed for perfection, and it's so nice when they didn't achieve it.

Not a Happy Vase 385/RD

I've been holding back on posting a photo of this one.  It came into my collection from eBay just before Christmas last year and left a few weeks later.  Even though it looks lovely here, it does have a restored rim.  The original seller had described it as in mint condition, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt, and just re-listed it for sale myself.  Of course second time round the listing made clear that there was restoration and I hope it's new owner is happy with it.
I've since had a couple of other restored pots sold to me from eBay - and have wondered if it might be a bit of a growing trend.  I hope not, but it's always worth raising any concerns with sellers and on the two occasions since, both sellers have been good enough to make full refunds and cover the return postage costs also.

Poole Pottery Art Deco Egg Cups and Tray TO Pattern

I've got a bit of a backlog of recent Poole acquisitions, but this one has jumped the queue.  How happy would you be to wake up to your breakfast eggs served in these little beauties.  I know that I'd be well chuffed.
Painted by Nellie Bishton between 1927 and 1934.

Poole Studio 5" pin dish

There have been a few of these dishes knocking about on eBay in the past few years.  I'm not sure how many were made or maybe I've been seeing the same few being re-traded.  This one came from there too. It has an early TV studio mark that dates it to between 1962 and 1964.

Delphis Rocket Shape Vase

This Delphis shape number 15 vase was painted by Valerie Pullen between 1974 and '75.
I'm for every having to make room for more pottery and it seemed a shame to hide this on away, so I'll list it on eBay tonight

Robert Jefferson Esmeralda and Quasimodo Tray

Robert Jefferson designed a number of trays and wall plaques in 1964.  This is the first that I've collected and I think it depicts Esmeralda and Quasimodo.  Most were made in this Olive Green glaze, that is perhaps a bit of an acquired taste.  I'm not sure how much I like them, particularly in this colour, but having got one, it could soon become a whole collection.

Poole Delphis 8" Plate - Patricia Wells

This really richly coloured Delphis plate painted was by Patricia Wells in the late 1960's.  It came from eBay at the beginning of the year and quickly found its way onto my website.

Poole Freeform Vase YFC Pattern

I've owned this vase for a few years now but think its time I let it go.  It really is a beauty and while taking the photos this afternoon, I really did start to get second thoughts.  But it's listed now for sale next Sunday, and  I have one week left to admire it sitting on my desk.
The YFT Pattern was designed by Alfred Read in 1953, but the shape dates from the 1920's/30's and would probably have been designed by John Adams.

Poole Aegean shape 42 Jane Brewer

This Aegean dish was painted by Jane Brewer in the early 1970's (1972-75).  It's not very colourful and about my least favourite shape for a Poole dish.  So overall, this isn't the most exciting pot, but I'm never sure you have to like everything that you collect, and it does look good grouped with my other recent Aegean eBay acquisitions. Which you can see here- Rob's Poole Pottery Collection - Aegean

Poole Pottery Art Deco Vase NA Pattern

This NA pattern vase was painted by Gwen Dry between 1928 and 1934.  Last weekend it was sitting on an "everything for £10" table at the Doncaster Racecourse antiques fair. Until I grabbed it and refused to let go.  Really one of my favourite patterns, although I have many, and a fantastic mini shape (8cm tall).  It does have a restoration on the base, but I can live with that on this pot.

Freeform Bottle Shape Vase

This fantastic hand thrown Freeform vase Shape 709 doesn't take up a lot of room at only 5 1/2 inches tall , but it's time for a change of this vase together with a few others are going back on eBay where they came from a few years ago - I think I might miss this one when its gone.

Website Update

I've started updating my website.  There's now a new Robert Jefferson Gallery and I'm hoping to update the Twintone and Miscellaneous Galleries with New photos in the coming days.

The vase above is an Aegean shape number 83, 6 inches tall and dates from the 1970's. the photo isn't great here but I think it look quite architectural and reminds me of brutalist concrete structures, or the decoration you might find pressed into concrete on a 1960's underpass.   I have a number of these Aegean Pots that haven't made it on to my website yet but I hope to make amends for that too in the next few days.

Metamorphic Pot

This little Picotee soup bowl came from eBay last week.  The bowl has the same thinly thrown/cast white body as Poole Twintone tableware from this time, the lid/saucer is thrown in red earthenware.  There's a faint shape number on the bowl base - 110.
I've never seen one like this before, but I'm really pleased to have it.  It seems very sophisticated. Although, I think, to fully appreciate it, you'd need someone to serve it at the table, lifting the lid with a flourish to reveal its double function - and the soup. Unfortunately that is unlikely to happen at my house.
