Traditional Poole Cake Plate TJ/712

Gorgeous Pottery cake plate from ebay this week. It's surprizingly small, at just 6 inches across, so would only be for the finest cakes, and not my usual whopping great doughnuts.

It's made from red clay, so dates, sometime before 1934, but I'm still mulling over the painters mark. The carrying handle is metal covered in coloured basketwork.

TJ is one of my favourite patterns. To cover a small flat surface in the round the pattern has been adapted from the version more commonly painted on vases. A vase in the same pattern is on my website here
