676/JB

This shape of Bokhara vase crops up less often than the other two shapes.  It comes in two sized, and at eight and tree quarter inches this is the taller one.

Sharing the Joy

These two Robert Jefferson designed (1964) Bokhara storage jars came from eBay a week or so ago.  At 12 cm tall they are the second smallest of 4 sizes made, and as can be seen in the picture below, I am now only missing the largest to make the set complete in this JC pattern .  That may take a few more years as they really don't appear very often, but until then I am sharing the joy (or splitting the cost) of this latest find by re-listing one of the two new jars back on eBay here

Bokhara Storage Jar JB

I like to think that my quest to collect a complete set of these Robert Jefferson Bokhara jars is slowly nearing it's completion, though in truth finding the last few missing pieces is taking ever longer.  These pots don't come up on eBay that often and when they do they are increasingly one that I already have. This one is shape 659, and at 16.5 cm tall, it's the largest (I think) of the 4 sizes made.

Back to Black

There's a skill in photographing black vases against a black back-drop that I do not possess, but given this blogs house style, I do try.  The small vase is the new one, to go alongside it big brother, both from the Bokhara range of jars designed by Robert Jefferson in 1964.

Bokhara JC Pattern Storage Jars

These JC pattern Bokhara storage jars were made in 4 sizes.  I've had the little one for quite a few years and its taken until now to find a second., I think these two are the smallest and second to largest, though neither of the seem to match the dimensions given in factory catalogue.

Smallest of Four Bokhara Storage Jars

I've had this little lidded pot in my collection for quite a while, but never posted a photo on here. This jar is hand-thrown in shape 659 and painted in JC patten.

Train Spotting Bokhara

Here's another "Contour" range shape jam pot painted in Bokhara colours. This time in OEA pattern painted by Silvia Davis. An OEB pattern version can be seen here.

Extra Bokhara

This Jam pot is painted by Mary Lowman in the OEB pattern designed by Robert Jefferson to decorate the Bokhara Jars that Poole was making in the 1960s.  The preserve jar shape, certainly the lid, seems to be more in the style of the "Contour" tableware that Jefferson designed about the same time.  There seems to have been quite a bit of rather free and easy mixing of patterns and shapes at Poole.

It's no. 15 to me

This is the 15th and by quite a long way the biggest Bokhara range pot to join my collection.  The vase shape, painted in JB colours, came in two sizes. This one 675/2, at 8" tall is the larger of the two.  Like the rest of the Bokhara range its hand thrown, and this time painted by Mary Lowman in 1964.

Bokhara Butter Box Bingo

My latest Bokhara jar, shape number 658, OHB pattern painted by Gwen Haskins has taken it's place alongside my other pots from this range.  With 2 lines so far, it will be a long game before I get a full house - See what I mean here

Another Bokhara Preserve Jar for the collection

This is number 13 for me, so nearly halfway to having the full set that Robert Jefferson designed. This one is called 655/OB.A and is already posted on the main site.

Swaps

The latest addition to my Bokhara jar collection. Designed by Robert Jefferson in 1964, these hand-thrown jam pots (shape number 657) are painted in OGB pattern by Mary Lowman on the right, with the one on the left carrying mark for Silvia Davis, although she's recorded as working only until 1962.
Anyway the two pot appeared separately on eBay last week and after winning the first (no.12 in my collection), I thought the second could be used to swap with any other Bokhara fans, or maybe might even get used for jam!

Poole Bokhara Jam Pot 657JB

This Poole Pottery jam pot is one of 29 similar pots from the Bokhara range designed by Robert Jefferson in 1964. To me this is number 11 my other 10 can be seen here.  It's another challenge and as I get closer to number 29 they will become harder to find.

Poole Bokhara 658 JB and 656 JB

These are two of my Robert Jefferson Bokhara pots which I found last year but didn't post because I couldn't get them to show up against the black background.  The butter box shape number 658 and jam pot with gorgeous ball finial number 656.

Poole Bokhara Preserve Jar 657 OGA

Here's a new addition to my growing collection on Bokhara jars which were developed by Robert Jefferson in 1964.  This is I think my 11th, but its the first example of this shape or this pattern.

Bokhara vase 674/1 JB

I'd just about given up on ever been able to photograph these JB pattern Sapphire Blue and Black Bokhara pots against black backgrounds, but I think I've just about managed it!
The Bokhara range of vases and jars was developed by Robert Jefferson in 1964.  They're all hand thrown shapes and hand painted.  This particular vase comes in 2 sizes this one 674/1 is 5 1/2 inches tall and I found it on eBay this week: The larger one 674/2 is a bit of a whopper at 8 inches and joined my collection, at twice the size but half the price, from eBay about a year ago.
I've also got a butter dish and two different shaped preserve jars all in this same Sapphire Blue and Black glaze to I just need to see if I can pull off using the black background one more time.

Poole Bokhara Preserve pot 656 OEB

This is another hand thrown and painted Bokhara Preserve Jar to add to my collection of these.  Designed by Robert Jefferson in 1964 there are nine different shapes of jar/vase in the range, but as some come in two or more sizes and most have more than one surface pattern collecting all of them will be a challenge.  This is number 6 for me with another 23 to go!
