Yellow Art Deco Vase YE/113

Besides the multicoloured patterns on Traditional Poole, less common colour combinations were also used. The beige and blue plate posted last month was one example, but this yellow and black palate is my favourite (for today!).

The concentric, overlapping and dissected circle motif used in this and other Truda Carter Patterns always reminds me of the paintings by Sonya and Robert Delaunay of the same period. I've also heard them described as abstract bumble bees, which in their yellow and black form is very apt. The vase was painted by Clarice Heath between 1934 and 37.
